Semi-live from Barcamp

Barcamp 2008 is happening at Granville Island. I'm there.

Vancouver Hacker Space: Somewhat hardware-oriented open hacking organization in East Van. Need to ask the speaker about the person in his organization who is looking to set up a techshop-type space.

A supposedly terrible thing I will do every time I can

CORRECTION: somewhere in this article I claimed that all the beers from the Burrard Street brewery are filtered. In fact, Rickard's White is (like all witbiers) unfiltered, as I was able to see by just looking at a bottle.

What is, totally obsessed?

I mean, silly me, of course there's a user-created web archive of over 1000 Jeopardy! games featuring a slick interface that shows the question grid, answers, and results for the entire game using a nifty interface. Like, whoa.
Also, a wondrous glossary.

Notes to myself

Update: the mystery cherry lambic beer was St. Louis Kriek. I'm gonna get me some, though at $60/12, I'm gonna get me a couple of bottles, not a case.

Serif? Sans-serif? Science suggests it doesn't matter.

I've referenced this many times in the past, and then they went and changed the URL. Found again: Levels of Suck Explained.

Boring media players

What I said about the Zune not so long ago also applies to the iPod, even the brand new models. There is essentially nothing new or noteworthy about this market in general, or Apple's offerings in particular.

Beer blogging, series 2: Duckstein and Young's Chocolate Stout

Well, I did a good deed for one of my aunts, and she in turn did me a very good turn by buying me some beer.

Before I go any further, I need to make one thing clear: I love new things. I seek novelty to a fault, and I like trying all kinds of new and interesting beer in the interests of educating my palate and finding a new favorite. I'd even try Steelback Tango if I could find a bottle. The fact that none of my recent tastings has displaced my beloved Unibroues is not a bad thing.

It's been a pretty good week

Update: Ryan can't read calendars, but this means that technically, blogging has prevented a huge schedule blunder.

Because of where I work, the first week of September is generally busy. This year, I feel pretty good about how I took care of business.

Aimlessly Introspective Post - ok to ignore

A "why do I blog?" post by world's only web-friendly whale blubber has prodded me into a similar reflex. It must be like when one person yawns, and then everyone yawns. Also, I'm procrastinating an time-sensitive and lucrative project.
