1000 push-ups in 1000 minutes

Degenerate gambler Terrence "Not Johnny" Chan posted an interesting question: could he do 1000 push-ups in 1000 minutes? Without training for it, of course. The speed record for 1000 pushups is 18:13 so it's hardly impossible, but the challenge is akin to the question of whether an untrained person could walk a marathon.

My gut reaction was yes. A surprising number of fit, thoughtful people think no. The "no" theory is generally that working those small muscles that continuously will eventually break you (or your tendons), even with so much recovery time.

Terrence, being the kind to put his money where his mouth is, said he would offer 3:1 odds (bet $1, get $3 if he fails) in a follow-up post.

If you're confident he'll fail, that's an excellent offer.

If there is sufficient money involved, I think your friend can do it. After all, doing 30 and resting for 30 minutes does not seem that hard...
But then again I doubt the fitness benefit of such an endeavour. I'll stick to my 30x3 every couple of weeks. :-)

My question is this......
You said that the challenge is akin to asking the question of whether an untrained person could walk a marathon. Could said untrained person smoke during said walk? Could same untrained person chug latte's? If you answer yes, then YES! An untrained person can in fact walk a marathon (oh shit, is there a time limit?) And as this is true, I have absolute faith that Terrence could do it (though at 3:1 I might wanna lay a little money in the other direction. No offense.)
