A "why do I blog?" post by world's only web-friendly whale blubber has prodded me into a similar reflex. It must be like when one person yawns, and then everyone yawns. Also, I'm procrastinating an time-sensitive and lucrative project.
This web presence has garnered me a few tangible things: a free phone, a trip to Toronto, and a pretty nice MP3 player. It has connected me socially with interesting people, though that probably has as much to do with conferences and comments on other sites as it does with you, my 20 loyal readers.
But you know what it's been really good for? I use the search function on a regular basis to search back in my archives to figure out what I've done in the past, and when. It's been quite practical for dredging the minutia of my life.
Yes, I could have done that perfectly well with an offline journal, but this way I flatter myself that there's a chance that someday I'll hit the big time!
More likely, I'll accidentally incriminate myself and somehow screw up my life, but no guts, no glory!
Oh, and one more thing: by posting my Christmas letter online each year, I can save on postage.

I enjoy your blog
And I have to admit that I enjoyed even more the self-introspective nature of this post. BTW, which free phone? Love freebies :)
OHHH Test The Nation :) Good stuff. I now recall (thus you must know Kerry Anne as well).
Heh.
Okay, since you represent a substantial percentage of my readership, I see no reason not to write more introspective posts :).
The phone was a Nokia 6682 a couple of years ago, which was (and for that matter is) as serviceable but not especially sexy smartphone.
In fairness, it worked so well that I used it as a work phone until we were issued Blackberrys, and then I gave it to my parents, and then when TLO's phone broke, I bought Jeffery's 6682, which he received in the same promotional program. She loves it.
